Chartwell

Monday was a lovely day out. We decided to stay clear of  London and head to the county of Kent. This is the location of Chartwell, the much loved family home of Winston Churchill where he drew inspiration from 1922 until the time of his death in 1965. His wife, Clementine, did not ever really like living there because she thought it would be too costly to maintain and also because Churchill did not consult her on the purchase of the house. In the end, she was right. They sold the house in 1947 to a group of friends who agreed to let them live there as long as they chose too. Once Churchill died, Clementine moved out to a flat in London. We had a great time strolling in the gardens (the roses were beautiful) and taking in the amazing views of the property thinking of times of old!
