Last Days in Guiyang

Our days in Guiyang are coming to an end. Tomorrow we fly to Guangzhou to complete all of the administrative portions of the adoption. The weather here in Guiyang has been pretty rainy all week, but today we got out to enjoy the sun. We went to an underground Wal-Mart that was massive even by American standards. We let the kids pick out a toy and Zachary got a set of toy trucks while Avery got makeup. After shopping we went back above ground onto the square and watched the locals fly kites while the kids burned off some energy. I have never seen kites fly so high before. In fact we kept losing them as they went in and out of the clouds. We also took a bunch of pictures with the locals as they are amazed to see Westerners!

On Tuesday our guide took us to a local park which is one of the largest parks in Guiyang. I am not sure of the name, but we called it monkey park because there were monkeys running wild all over the park. The monkeys can be aggressive so we were told to keep all of our food and drinks in bags. In fact we saw a monkey take a water bottle out of a man’s bag.

From there we hiked up the trail to a temple that dated back to the Ming Dynasty. After leaving the park we visited a museum that told the cultural history of Guizhou province. This was very interesting. We had a great day.

Zachary is doing really well. He is warming up to everyone more each day. He loves to play with Avery and is always laughing and running around. He is smart and loves to bring Bruce his mobile phone and take the water bottles off the shelf then return them to exactly the same place where he took them from. This is a game for him.

More later from Guangzhou!
